Biography Stanton Miranda

Stanton Miranda takes multi-tasking to extremes: singer/songwriter/actor/performance artist. Her avant-garde pop and folk-tinged songs contain elements which both settle, and unease. Besides being a solo singer/songwriter and one half of new-wave art band Thick Pigeon; New York-based Miranda also played in the band CKM, put together by visual artist Dan Graham, with Christine Hahn (ex Malaria) and Kim Gordon (later of Sonic Youth).

After the club-friendly single Wheels Over Indian Trails in 1986, released as Stanton Miranda, it would be seven years before Miranda and Thick Pigeon collaborator Carter Burwell reconvened for the delightful 'Miranda Dali' album, released by Crepuscule in 1991.

In addition to writing music, Stanton Miranda has acted in feature films by Jonathan Demme (including Married to the Mob and Something Wild), worked off- Broadway with John Leguezamo, and given art performances at The Kitchen (NYC). Her cv also includes voiceover work for Perscriptives (a commercial), Dan Graham's video catalogue for DIA Center for the Arts, and Robert Frank's short film Flamingo. In 1998 she played the lead role in Michael Shamberg's film Souvenir, co-starring Kristin Scott Thomas. Miranda also recorded a cover version of Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart for the Virgin/Hut compilation A Means To An End, and was the featured singer on two tracks (Red Shoes and When the World) on The Guitar and Other Machines by Durutti Column.
