History Whale Tooth

For a band whose name comes from an odd family heirloom, and whose sound

can only be described as genuinely unabashed dance floor rock, Whale Tooth

defy nostalgia yet remind listeners of another era in music.

Formed through mutual friends and a mutual conviction that music ought to get ones' blood

running fast, since 2008 Whale Tooth have already played well over including

stops at festivals like Rifflandia, Ottawa Bluesfest, and CMJ.

Front-woman Elise LeGrow has found the secret to infusing her classic jazz

background into indie-rock. Her powerful, effortless vocals coupled with Norm

Maschke and Alex Denike's guitar and harmonies "will ignite the fire in your soul,

and make you 'twist and shout' over and over again" (Earshot). With Sep

Noroozi (drums) and Michael McCreary (bass/vocals) providing the rhythms, the

band looks to continue to expand their repertoire and excite new audiences.

A lot has happened in a short period of time for a band whose been busy

converting jaded indie fans into ardent believers with NOW Magazine proclaiming

that "any new wave references are more Elvis Costello than New Order. [Whale

Tooth] excels at bouncy, major-key guitar pop crammed with hooks and just

enough soul to stand out."

Coming off their successful 5-song EP which saw them play with the likes of

Tokyo Police Club, Mother Mother, Hey Ocean and a stop at the Rifflandia

Festival – Whale Tooth finished off the touring cycle for the first album as direct

support on Mother Motherʼs national tour in 2011.

Look for their new record, Search Party, coming soon.
