Biography Higgs Boson

There are more than one band with the name Higgs Boson

1) Higgs Boson is an English keyboardist-composer who specialises in an exhilarating and unique form of jazz/world fusion that marries music, art & science.

Higgs' music is inspired by the edges of science, where the imagination starts to take over; the source being an imaginary sub-atomic particle (aka the 'God' particle) associated with the beginning of time! Higgs Boson draws inspiration from the elusive particle of the same name. GoTo www.higgsboson.com

In 1996 Higgs exploded onto the European jazz scene with a critically-acclaimed debut album, which recently received high praise from the likes of Alphonse Mouzon and Tony Levin. In the early 1990's Higgs was signed to Elysium Records and followed this by producing a self-named CD on FHP Records. The album received excellent reviews from the British music press and was featured on a number of national network radio programmes including Humphrey Lyttleton's "Best of Jazz on Record" show on BBC Radio 2.

Higgs put together a group of exceptional musicians for this album and was the first jazz project totally controlled by Higgs from composition through to final production, helped by Gareth Young, an internationally acclaimed pop producer and Jo Partridge guitarist on Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds.

Higgs lists some of his main influences as Pink Floyd, Debussy, The Beatles, Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, Oscar Peterson, Camel, Yes, Genesis, Dudley Moore, The Who, and Bill Bruford, to name but a few....

Higgs was raised and educated in the small devonshire town of Bideford, England. He started playing the piano at the age of 8 and studied the instrument classically while still at school. At the age of 14 he became a rock drummer, playing mainly original material. It wasn't until Higgs was asked to play in a jazz trio that his interest in the piano was rekindled. He spent 5 years fanatically pursuing knowledge of his newfound love - Jazz.

He studied under Malcolm Cliff, a respected jazz pianist on the then London circuit, and big band arranger Ian Gardener. After this he spent a number of years playing solo modern jazz piano in various venues in and around London while developing his own unique musical style.

Jazz Journal International, Keyboard Review, Rhythm Magazine, Guitar Techniques and The Mix are among publications giving Higgs’ music great reviews, praising both the composition and execution of his first album.

2 ) Higgs Boson is a Powerviolence band from Oslo/Tønsberg Norway, that's been active since 2011!
