History The Broken Toys

Broken Toys were a local band from Stockton, California during the mid to late 80's. I saw them a few times at "The Stone" in San Francisco. They released one album in 1987 - "The Cut of Memory". "Red Square" is the final track on the B side. I always liked the long intro, performed by Marie Santelices, that leads into a fairly progressive track sung by Kelly Foley. This LP is one of those gems that shouldn't be forgotten.

Broken Toys were formed in 2004 by Verity Beehan (vocals), Elliot Tooley (drums), Rich Lyman (bass) and Andy Brown (guitar).

Friends from school Rich and Andy were in Hoodie, when Hoodie disbanded Rich joined 19 Stab Wounds From Here To Ya-Ya for a stint of aclaimed live performances. After leaving 19 Stab Wounds Rich joined Elliot in the short lived band The Fyred. Broken Toys were formed when Elliot called on Rich to fill in bass for a gig which featured Elliot's girfriend Verity on vocals. Gigs started piling up so when the guitarist Chris was unavaliable Rich called on Andy to fill in. This was the start of Broken Toys. In January 2005 the band played it's first gig as Broken Toys selling every single copy of their 2 song Demo featuring early version of Clutch Cable and Generic Convention.

Lots of gigs and 2 EP's later Broken Toys recorded a music DVD featuring a music video for each song on their 2007 6 track EP a documetary on the band and lots of bonus material inclueding 'making of's and live tracks. You can find videos from the DVD on the band's website along with info on how to get a copy of it or their EP's. Also avaliable on www.myspace.com/aphideye
