1) Vladimir Volkov is a Russian contrabass player, composer and producer, and a very important figure in the St.Petersburg 'new improvisational music' scene. He is known for various collaborations, notably with Leonid Fedorov as well as the likes of Sergei Starostin and Arkady Shilkloper. He also has a longstanding project called the Volkov Trio. In 2008 he started playing in a trio with Swiss pianist Dominik Blum and Russian drummer Aleksandr Mashin.
If you are attentive you may spot a cameo appearance by Vladimir Volkov in the Russian film of 2006, 'Piter FM'. The main character, Masha, is standing at a metal park gate, opening and closing it to listen to it squeak, and he comes along carrying his contrabass and they share a little chuckle about what she is doing.
Vladimir Grigorevich Volkov was a poet, singer and composer, in the tradition of the Russian 'bard', who sang songs, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar, the content of which centres around his Russian Orthodox beliefs.
