Biography François Carrier

François Carrier (* 5 June 1961 in Chicoutimi, Québec) is a Canadian musician (soprano and alto saxophone) and composer in the field of modern creative and improvised music.

Carrier has been active in the Canadian jazz scene since the 1980s; since 2000 he has worked in a trio with percussionist Michel Lambert and bassist Pierre Côté. His album Compassion (Naxos Jazz) won the Juno Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album in 2001. In 2002 he performed with pianist Bobo Stenson at the Vancouver Jazz Festival and recorded an album with Uri Caine. In 2003 he recorded the album Travelling Lights (Justin Time), accompanied by Paul Bley, Gary Peacock and Michel Lambert. Other productions followed, including productions with Mat Maneri, Dewey Redman, Michel Donato, Ron Séguin and Véronique Dubois. In 2011 the trio album Inner Spire (Leo) with drummer Michel Lambert and Russian pianist Alexei Lapin was released in St. Petersburg.

Carrier ist seit den 1980er Jahren in der kanadischen Jazzszene aktiv; ab 2000 arbeitet er im Trio mit dem Schlagzeuger Michel Lambert und dem Bassisten Pierre Côté. Sein Album Compassion (Naxos Jazz) wurde 2001 mit dem Juno Award als bestes zeitgenössisches Jazzalbum ausgezeichnet. 2002 konzertierte er mit dem Pianisten Bobo Stenson auf dem Vancouver Jazz Festival und nahm ein Album mit Uri Caine auf. 2003 spielte er, begleitet von Paul Bley, Gary Peacock und Michel Lambert, das Album Travelling Lights (Justin Time) ein. Es folgten weitere Produktionen u. a. mit Mat Maneri, Dewey Redman, Michel Donato, Ron Séguin und Véronique Dubois. 2011 entstand in St. Petersburg das Trioalbum Inner Spire (Leo) mit dem Schlagzeuger Michel Lambert und dem russischen Pianisten Alexei Lapin.
