History Uphill Work
Uphill Work started as an experimental duo in Moscow in winter of 2002. Konstantin Benyumov and Lev Gankine were at first the only members -- and that was to remain for a couple of years. The group started rehearsing and had their first album recorded by July, 2002. Sadly, those tapes recieved little acclaim and are now largely inaccessible.
The music and the line-up have changed since those times considerably. In spring of 2005 the duo invited Evgeny Semiletov to play on bass, thus ending the band's seemingly infinite search for a rhythm section. A year later Uphill Work settled with Konstantin Provorov as the drummer.
Turning from a studio project into a rather conventional, if not exactly trivial, band, Uphill Work has steadily drifted away from composing purely instrumental music. The group's new material is less extravagant, but Uphill Work remains true to its spirit in the sense that the music should be a little challenging -- for the musicians, as well as the audience.
