History The Riplets
The Riplets is an all-girl punkrockband. The Riplets exist since 1998 and they started performing in 1999. They opened for bands like Dee Dee Ramone and Dead Moon. After two years of performing they decided to record their 7”, Our Engine Is Running, and release it on their own Riplet Records label. In May of 2001 they held the release party at Rotterdam’s Nighttown with the Donnas and the Sahara Hotnights. In the fall of that year they did their first tour; they were invited by Travoltas to join them on a five week concert tour through Holland. After the tour the Riplets continued to do weekly gigs. In May of 2002 The Riplets recorded their first full-length, Rock ‘n Roll Beat with producers duo PeVi (Vincent and Perry of Travoltas). This debut album was released on My First Sonny Weissmuller in October, 2002. The release party was in the large hall of Nighttown, where The Riplets opened for The Undertones. The Riplets started to gain more and more recognition and media attention. The album got great reviews, and Riplets interviews were featured in every major music magazine in Holland. The album did very well in magazine and radio charts as well. It reached the number 7 position in ‘De Moordlijst’ (Holland’s top music magazine, OOR’s charts) and the title song even reached the highest position in Kink FM’s (Holland’s number 1 alternative radio station) Outlaw top 41. Janneke made a music video for the song Rock ‘n Roll Beat which was played regularly on the national music station “The Box”. In 2003, The Riplets played and played and played. They opened for Sum 41 in a sold-out 013 in Tilburg and performed at a variety of festivals during the summer. After the summer, Honey Lovebux, who had joined the band for a year to play the organ and tambourine, left the band. She was replaced by Alice in October. Besides Holland, Belgium, Germany and Denmark, The Riplets can now add America to the list of countries where they’ve performed. With help from some friends, Janneke booked The Riplets’ first U.S. tour, from September 18th through 28th. The tour consisted of 8 shows, 4 on the East Coast and 4 in the Mid-West. After the U.S. tour The Riplets went straight to the studio to record their second album. Love Special Delivery Boy was recorded at “The Void” in Eindhoven. PeVi joined the Riplets again to produce the record. This record was released with a party in Rotown in February of 2004 on U-sonic, the label of distributor Sonic Rendezvous. This cd features a new single: the cover Hey Mickey. A 12” was put out under the label G ‘n’ J Recordings with dance-remixes of this song, made by RA-X, Lady Aïda, Vinyl Crushers, Rude 66 and David Gilmour Girls. The video, again made by Janneke, was shown on the Box and this song also reached nr 0 in the Outlaw 41! The band played at Eurosonic and joined The Undertones again for gigs at Ekko and LVC. They were support act for De Heideroosjes in the Melkweg and toured with Green Lizard and The League of XO Gentlemen for the Jack Daniels Rock Nights. They were the first band ever to do a gig in the Now & Wow. But there was a farewell tour in September, because further plans were unclear. In may 2006 The Riplets recorded one of their new rocking and rebellious songs: Love U Rock 'n' Roll. They released it on a split 7". Side b of the white vinyl contains a song of the brand new band The White Suicide Rhythm & Blues Collective. On the pretext of 'No budget that's what real Rock 'n' Roll is about' the band recorded a video to "Love you Rock 'n' Roll for which the photographer Daniel Baggerman did art direction. The split 7" and the video were both released on the 21st of september. The Riplets rock more then ever! Check out the new singel After Eight (the boy can´t dance) and be prepared for our new album ROCK... it will be released this summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
