History Catholic Girls
There are 2 bands known as Catholic Girls:
1) 80's all-girl rock band,
2) hardcore/punk band from Denver, Colorado.
1) The Catholic Girls were an all-girl band signed to MCA Records in the early 80's. Their self-titled album spawned one video that received medium rotation on MTV, "Boys Can Cry." The band was a cult favorite on the East Coast and opened for well known acts such as The Kinks and Tom Petty. After their album was released, they headlined a grueling six-month national tour, crowded into a van with all their musical and amplification equipment. They played to sold out crowds every night. They battled club owners, preconceptions, and conservative radio long before girl bands decided to network and help each other out by playing together.
Banned by the Archdiocese in Rhode Island, they were not allowed to play in that state. The church proclaimed their song "God Made You For Me" was sacrilegious.
Their album, long out of print, finally saw the light of day years later with a deluxe CD reissue from Renaissance Records, featuring new bonus tracks.
2) 4-piece hardcore/punk band from Denver, Colorado. Distant 7" EP out now on Crown & Throne Ltd. http://catholicgirls.bandcamp.com/
