Biography Justin Shapiro
Justin Shapiro is a songwriter from Litteton, CO. He has been recording since he was 11 in 2006 but didn't come up with a solid album until 2009 with the release of "Escaped Thoughts" in 2009. His debut, "Escaped Thoughts", was influenced by ambient artists such as Sigur Ros, For a Minor Reflection, Eluvium, and Explosions In the Sky, hence its ambient direction. "Escaped Thoughts" eventually made its was to iTunes in 2010 and remained there until Shapiro decided to remove it in October 2011 when he offically decided an ambient sound, while interesting, wasn't the direction he wanted to take.
In between the time of the release of "Escaped Thoughts" in 2009 and its removal in October 2011, Shapiro released two other albums titled "Reports of Engagement" and "Flowing Water" in 2010. These two albums marked the rapid genre change from ambient to a more mainstream alternative sound. "Reports of Engagement", released in March 2010, presented a more dark theme of toxic middle school issues (as most of the lyrics for the songs were written when Shapiro was still in middle school). "Flowing Water", released in September 2010, presented the same type of themes but with a lighter touch and more high school level issues are detected (since the songs were written second semester of his freshman year).
After the release of the two alternative albums, Shapiro remained inactive for the next year and a half as he was trying to decide what musical direction he wanted to take for his next release as his influences were changing from just indie bands to post-hardcore, pop-punk, and that same indie influence that existed the previous three years. In February 2012 Shapiro announced via his twitter page that he would resume recording. In March he announced a new album was in production and could potentially have the title of Dreaming of Static even though Shapiro claims it is more probable that the next album would be titled Digital Static instead.
