MC Hammer

Stanley Kirk Burrell, widely known as MC Hammer, emerged as a dominant force in the music industry during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Hailed by critics as "one of the best-selling rappers of all time," Hammer's career is marked by a dramatic ascent to superstardom, a subsequent fall from grace, and a remarkable reinvention. Beyond his chart-topping success, he became a cultural phenomenon, recognized for his flamboyant "Hammer Pants," the animated series "Hammerman," and his eventual transition to ministry and television hosting.

MC Hammer's independent debut album, Feel My Power, was released in 1987, produced by VEH of Con Funk Shun. The album garnered significant attention, selling over 60,000 copies. A pivotal moment arrived in the spring of 1988 when the track "Let's Get It Started" began to gain traction in clubs, leading to increased interest from major record labels. Despite initial hesitations, Hammer signed with Capitol Records, which led to the re-release of his debut album as Let's Get It Started. The album was further bolstered by new videos for "Let's Get It Started" and the added track "Pump It Up." "Pump It Up" gained visibility on the premiere season of Yo! MTV Raps. The album achieved triple-platinum status, selling over 3 million units, with hits like "Turn This Mutha Out," "Feel My Power," and "They Put Me in the Mix" receiving extensive airplay.
