D12, an abbreviation for The Dirty Dozen, emerged from Detroit, Michigan, in 1996, establishing themselves as a prominent force in American hip-hop. The group's foundational lineup featured prominent artists including Eminem, Proof, Bizarre, Kon Artis, Kuniva, and Swifty McVay.

The early 2000s marked a period of significant mainstream breakthrough for D12. Their albums Devil's Night (2001) and D12 World (2004) achieved widespread commercial success, yielding hit singles such as "Shit on You," "Purple Pills," "Fight Music," "My Band," and "How Come." Both of these seminal albums were certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. In recognition of their impact, the group was honored with the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Hip-Hop Act in 2004.
