Jamelia, born Jamelia Davis in Birmingham, United Kingdom, on January 11, 1981, began her music career at the remarkable age of 15. Signed to Parlophone, she captivated record executives with her self-penned a cappella performances. Her debut album, Drama, was released in 2000. The album's most successful single, "Money," featuring Beenie Man, reached the top 5 in the UK charts. That same year, Jamelia received five MOBO Award nominations, celebrating music of Black origin, and took home one award.
Following a temporary hiatus from the music industry to welcome her daughter in March 2001, Jamelia returned with her sophomore album, Thank You, in 2003. The album achieved significant success, peaking in the UK top 5 and selling over half a million copies. It included her fifth top 40 hit, "Superstar," a cover of Christine Milton's song, which propelled her to international fame across Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The single topped the charts in Australia and was certified platinum. Subsequent singles "Thank You" and "See It In A Boy's Eyes" (co-written with Coldplay's Chris Martin) also reached the UK top 5.
