Born in Halifax and raised in Shelburne, Nova Scotia, Jay Bizzy discovered hip-hop at the age of 10. By 1993, he was actively rhyming with local crews Mad Drama and 2,1., becoming the first in his town to create and sell hip-hop mixtapes. These early releases not only featured popular tracks of the era but also provided a platform for Shelburne's emerging local talent.
In 1999, Jay Bizzy penned and recorded "U R Shelburne When" from the back of his ice cream shop. The song's candid, relatable lyrics, drawing on the stereotypes of growing up in Shelburne, resonated widely. Propelled by platforms like Napster, the track's popularity surged, ultimately earning it recognition as the unofficial "Nova Scotia, small-town anthem."
