Drake Milligan, a native of Mansfield, Texas, found his musical direction through the country music his father played, with artists like Merle Haggard being a significant influence. An early spark also came from an Elvis impersonator he witnessed performing at a local restaurant. This led Milligan to pursue his own Elvis impersonation act before he auditioned for CMT's television series, Sun Records. He secured the role of Elvis Presley, a part that prompted his relocation from Texas to Nashville, Tennessee, during his senior year of high school.
In 2018, Milligan participated in American Idol but withdrew from the competition. He later explained his decision, stating, "I decided that I wasn't quite ready for that platform yet, and that it would be a better step for me to move to Nashville and focus on my music first."
