The Japanese Neo-Prog band Gerard emerged in 1984, with their latest release dating to 2010. The group has been categorized under Neo-Prog, symphonic/progressive rock, and hard progressive genres. In the mid-1990s, a significant lineup change introduced a heavier sonic direction, marked by the release of their album "The Pendulum" in 1996. Concurrently, the band transitioned into a power trio, eliminating the guitarist position and focusing on keyboards, bass, and drums.

Keyboardist Toshio Egawa has remained the sole consistent member throughout Gerard's history. The bass duties have been fulfilled by a succession of musicians including Yohei Kawada, Yasumasa Uotani, Toshima Nagai, and Atsushi Hasegawa. The drumming ensemble has featured Masaharu Sato, Masaki Tanimoto, Kota Igarashi, Masuhiro Goto, and Kenichi Fujimoto. Vocal responsibilities have been shared by Robin G. Suchy, Simon Nakaji, and Yasuo Sasai, alongside various instrumentalists. During periods when guitar was part of the lineup, Yukihiro Fujimura was the guitarist.
