Quadron

History

Quadron

Quadron is a Danish duo formed in July 2009, comprising vocalist Coco O. (Coco Malaika) and producer/multi-instrumentalist Robin Hannibal (Robin Braun). Both artists were previously members of the collective Boom Clap Bachelors.

Early Collaborations and Debut

Coco O. had previously provided backing vocals for Danish soul artist Karen. Robin Hannibal had collaborated with various artists including Nobody Beats The Beats, Clemens, Jokeren, and L.O.C., and was also involved in his own projects, Owusu & Hannibal and Parallel Dance Ensemble.

Quadron began releasing their collaborative work in 2009. Their early tracks gained attention, with "Slippin'," a song influenced by mid-'60s soul, featured in the film Se Min Kjole. The abstract track "Day" caught the ear of BBC DJ Gilles Peterson, who included it on his Worldwide program's year-end special.

Self-Titled Album and Subsequent Projects

Their debut album, the self-titled Quadron, was released in March 2010 by the Los Angeles-based label Plug Research. Following the album's release, both Braun and Coco O. were sought after for collaborations by artists such as Leon Ware, The Internet, and Tyler, The Creator.

In 2012, Quadron contributed a cover of Michael Jackson's "Baby Be Mine" to the soundtrack of the film Think Like a Man. In 2013, Robin Hannibal released an album with Mike Milosh under the name Rhye, while Coco O. was featured on the soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby.
