History

Brylho

Brylho was a Brazilian soul and funk band that emerged from Rio de Janeiro in the early 1980s. The group is primarily remembered for its singular hit song, which became a cultural touchstone in Brazil.

Formation and Early Years

The band initially formed in 1978 under the name Brilho da Cidade. Its founding members included Arnaldo Brandão, Claudio Zoli, Paulo Zdanowski, Robério Rafael, Bolão, and Ricardo Cristaldi.

Musical Legacy and "Noite do Prazer"

Brylho is widely considered a one-hit wonder, with their sole major success being the song "Noite do Prazer." This track was featured on their self-titled debut album, released in 1983. The song contains the lyric "Playing BB King non-stop" ("Tocando BB King sem parar"). However, a widespread misunderstanding among the Brazilian public led to the lyric being interpreted as "Swapping bikinis non-stop" ("Trocando de biquíni sem parar"), a misinterpretation that significantly contributed to the song's enduring popularity and the band's notoriety.

Disbandment and Members' Later Careers

The band officially disbanded in 1985. Following the dissolution of Brylho, its members pursued various musical paths. Arnaldo Brandão went on to found the band Hanoi-Hanoi. Claudio Zoli embarked on a successful solo career. Paulo Zdanowski formed Banda SoulRio. Robério Rafael settled in Unamar, where he experienced a stroke that unfortunately prevented him from continuing his musical endeavors.
