Gracie Abrams Debuts at Number One on ARIA Albums Chart

The latest release from Gracie Abrams, who is identified as a Pop artist formed in 1999, opened its account at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Daughter From Hell, released via Interscope/Universal, also claimed the title of the week’s best-seller on vinyl. This achievement marks the second time Abrams has led the Australian charts, following her 2024 album The Secret Of Us, which spent three weeks at the summit during the 2024-25 period. Her debut studio album, Good Riddance, previously reached a peak of No. 30 in 2023.

In securing the top spot, Abrams ousts Olivia Rodrigo’s you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, which fell from 1-2. The top three is entirely comprised of female artists, with Olivia Dean’s The Art of Loving climbing from 4-3. Other notable entries on the Australian chart include the U.S. metalcore group Motionless in White, whose seventh studio album Decades debuted at No. 5, marking a career-high and their first top 10 appearance. Viral singer-songwriter Steve Lacy entered the chart at No. 19 with Oh Yeah, while the top-ranked Australian album for the week is Holly Hebe’s Mood Ring, which debuted at No. 23.

Milestone Performance on the Billboard 200

Beyond her success in Australia, Abrams has earned her first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 in the United States. Daughter From Hell debuted atop the ranking dated August 1, 2026, with 124,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending July 23. This total represents the singer-songwriter's best-ever week by units, surpassing her previous peak of No. 2 reached with The Secret of Us in July 2024.

The 124,000 units earned in the U.S. were comprised of 77,000 in album sales, 46,500 in streaming equivalent album (SEA) units—representing 47.27 million on-demand official streams—and 500 track equivalent album (TEA) units. The album's strong sales performance was bolstered by a variety of physical formats, including 10 vinyl variants, four CD variants, two cassettes, and two digital download editions. Abrams is the sixth artist to achieve their first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2026, joining a list that includes Noah Kahan, Ella Langley, Megan Moroney, Don Toliver, and Megadeth.

Production and Creative Process

Daughter From Hell was produced by Aaron Dessner of The National, who also worked on Abrams' previous two albums. The record features writing contributions from Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), Audrey Hobert, and Abrams’ partner Paul Mescal, who co-wrote the track "Imaginary Friend." During an exclusive show at Bowery Ballroom ahead of the album's release, Abrams reflected on the emotional state that influenced the project.

Global Chart Context and Rankings

On the ARIA Singles Chart, Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” maintained its position at No. 1 for a seventh non-consecutive week. Langley also saw “Weren’t For The Wind” at No. 36 and “Be Her” at No. 41. In the U.S., the Billboard 200 top 10 featured BTS’ album ARIRANG, which surged from 26-9 following a new vinyl picture disc release and the group's halftime performance at the FIFA World Cup final on July 19. Other titles in the U.S. top 10 include Morgan Wallen’s I’m the Problem at No. 3, Noah Kahan’s The Great Divide at No. 5, and Drake’s ICEMAN at No. 6.
