The performance featured the artist and his band surrounded by Western bar-themed decor, including a prominent sign displaying the title of his upcoming long-player.

The performance was highlighted by a surprise appearance from Ciara Miller, who also starred in the "Cowgirl" music video released last month. Reprising her role for the late-night spot, Miller arrived midway through the song to share a dance with the leading man on the saloon-style stage. "Cowgirl" serves as the immediate follow-up to the April release "Born To Die," both of which are featured on the artist's new concept album.

The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales

The performance serves as a precursor to the release of his new album, titled The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales, which is scheduled to arrive this Friday (July 31) through the label EMPIRE. The project is described as a comprehensive Western portrait and a Country tale that blends elements of Americana, hip-hop, and pop. According to a statement, the collection recounts a "tragic, mythic story of vengeance, love, and transformation" and is structured to unfold like a Western film, complete with chapters, narration, skits, and cinematic transitions.

The narrative of the album centers on the character of Cherie Lee (also referred to as Cheri Lee), a woman whose life has been shaped by violence and loss. The story follows her travels as she falls for an outlaw, an event that grants her access to the very world she intends to destroy. The plot eventually takes a "bloody turn," forcing the protagonist to make difficult decisions. Shaboozey expanded on the themes of the project in a statement:

The album has been several years in the making and features a diverse array of guest artists, including Kehlani, Gunna, Leon Bridges, and Orville Peck. Speaking on Rolling Stone’s Nashville Now podcast in May, the singer discussed his desire to merge cinematic storytelling with music, citing specific directorial influences such as Quentin Tarantino.

"It was always my dream to put all the things I love about movies and music and stories into one cohesive body of work that I felt like people in today’s current music landscape aren’t really doing. Chart Records and Outlaws Never Die Tour

The new project is the successor to the breakout 2024 album Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going. The artist has recently achieved significant commercial milestones with his hit "A Bar Song (Tipsy)," which spent 19 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track also set a new benchmark by spending more time at the top of Billboard’s Radio Songs chart than any previous song in the chart's history.

Following the album release, the artist—who was formed in 1995—will embark on the Outlaws Never Die Tour this fall. The tour is scheduled to begin on September 8 at the Arizona Financial Theatre in Phoenix.
