European Leg of the Global Farewell Tour

Following a landmark year in their career, the Grammy Award-winning Thrash Metal pioneers Megadeth have revealed the details for the European chapter of their multi-year global farewell headline tour. Titled "Breakout: Hibernation Of The Nations", the 24-date arena run is scheduled to begin on March 9, 2027, in Belfast, Ireland. The tour will see the band perform across the United Kingdom and mainland Europe, eventually concluding on April 13, 2027, in Lisbon, Portugal.

Joining the lineup for the entirety of the tour are fellow heavy music icons Black Label Society and Testament. This European leg is designed to visit 12 of the 22 global markets where the band’s latest album reached the Top 5. According to the band’s leadership, this journey is intended as a multi-continent celebration rather than a single concluding run, providing fans worldwide with multiple opportunities to see the group perform live.

A Celebration of Four Decades

Reflecting on the decision to launch this final global tour, Megadeth leader Dave Mustaine emphasized that the upcoming shows are a tribute to the band's history and its connection with the audience.

The production for this tour is expected to span the band's entire career, featuring iconic anthems alongside selections from their seventeenth and final studio album. Fans can access tickets through several stages: the Cyber Army presale begins Tuesday, August 4 at 10:00 a.m. local time, followed by the Artist Presale on Wednesday, August 5, and the General On Sale on Friday, August 7. VIP packages will also be available, offering meet-and-greet opportunities, exclusive memorabilia, and early entry.

Chart Success of the Final Studio Album

The tour announcement comes on the heels of the massive commercial success of the band's self-titled seventeenth album, Megadeth. Released via Mustaine's Tradecraft imprint on the BLKIIBLK label (part of Frontiers Label Group), the record earned 73,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. during the week ending January 29, 2026. This total included 69,000 in pure album sales, making it the band's first-ever No. 1 album on the Billboard 200.

The album also achieved significant international chart positions:

• No. 2 in Finland, Sweden, and Belgium.

• No. 3 in the United Kingdom and Germany.

• No. 4 in the Netherlands.

• No. 5 in Italy and New Zealand.

The record was produced by Chris Rakestraw, who previously worked with the band on Dystopia (2016) and The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead! (2022). The latter album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 with 48,000 units sold in its first week.

Lineup and Legacy

The current iteration of Megadeth features Dave Mustaine alongside guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari, who joined the group nearly three years ago as a replacement for Kiko Loureiro. The lineup is completed by drummer Dirk Verbeuren and bassist James LoMenzo.

Since forming in 1983 after Mustaine's departure from Metallica, Megadeth has remained a central force in the "Big Four" of thrash metal. Their discography includes the 1985 debut Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good!, the 1986 classic Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?, and the 1990 technical landmark Rust In Peace. The band enjoyed significant mainstream success in the 1990s with Countdown To Extinction (No. 2, 1992) and Youthanasia (No. 4, 1994). Despite a brief breakup in the early 2000s, the band returned in 2004 with The System Has Failed and has continued to release top-charting albums for over 40 years.
